There is also a CD-ROM which contains all the drawings as printed in the book, in both EPS and DWG (generic CAD) formats. In addition the book features an index of architects that includes the name, address and all contact details for each architect included. About the Author
Virginia McLeod studied architecture in Australia before practising for a number of years in Sydney. She moved to the UK in 1998 to complete an MA in the history and theory of Architecture at the Architectural Association in London. Since then she has worked for a number of private practices in London and was also the editor of The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture. She is the author of Detail in Contemporary Residential Architecture, Detail in Contemporary Landscape Architecture, Detail in Contemporary Kitchen Design and Detail in Contemporary Bathroom Design, all published by Laurence King.

A good source for wood detailing

I purchased this book after deciding to begin a timber-based project in architecture grad school. The text contains quite a few projects with a short description, a few pictures, and a set of details (and occasionally plans/sections) of each. While the book serves as a great inspirational reference for those looking to see how other architects have handled the issue of the timber joint, it is not a technical reference. There isn't much in the way of call-outs or dimensions when referring to the details and objects tend to get lost in the line work.
Pros: Concise, many examples, unique timber joinery, inspiration for how to use timber in contemporary architecture
Cons: Not all of the projects use timber in a structural manner and the details will illustrate that, very little in the way of technical resources.
Good for inspiration. If you're looking for a technical reference, I would suggest the Architect's Studio Companion, but if you're looking for specific examples of timber joints and construction, this text is pretty solid.

Lots of cutting edge contemporary designs are presented, and while it does have plenty of drawings, it doesn't delve as deeply into actual specific connection details as my current research requires, but aside from that it's a very interesting, well presented, compilation of projects.
