About the Author
Marilyn Wentz graduated with a BA in Journalism and a minor in Spanish from the University of Northern Colorado. She edits two national agriculture publications, Bison World and Open Pastures. Prior to settling down in her native Colorado, she was general manager of the Taiwan public relations branch of Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising, then the world's largest advertising agency, and also spent six months in rural Costa Rica. She became fluent in Spanish and conversational Mandarin Chinese. She now operates Prairie Natural Lamb and enjoys training horses.
Millie Bay has lived in Colorado all her life except for two years in Fairbanks, Alaska. For forty years she raised sheep, including lambing-out as many as 100 ewes per year. She has served as a leader in 4-H and AWANA. As a writer, she has had numerous articles published in local newspapers and several in the Gideon Lamp magazine.

I always believed that sheep were dirty, woolly

I grew up on a family dairy farm. I always believed that sheep were dirty, woolly, essentially brainless animals; the epitome of stupidity. In this book, Marilyn and Millie present delightful examples of individual sheep that actually seem to exhibit intelligence. Some of them even seem to have personalities, and are likable. One example is Lucy, who gives birth to quadruplets, something that rarely has a happy ending among sheep. When Millie made the arbitrary decision to remove one of the lambs, to be bottle-fed, Lucy vociferously objected, until Millie relented and returned the youngster to his overjoyed mother. Lucy ultimately managed to raise four healthy, happy children. The way that Millie, and Marilyn, tie these very interesting and delightful short vignettes to Scripture is extremely skillful and insightful. This is a great book! Both my wife and I absolutely love it. I cannot recommend it more highly! Buy it, read it, pass it on. You will not regret it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The authors share their experiences raising sheep and tie each story to scripture and a biblical application. The stories are interesting, entertaining and sometimes sad. You learn a lot about sheep and raising sheep. The scripture and devotional that go with each story makes you think and examine yourself and your relationship to God. Each chapter is fairly short so it's easy to read even if you're busy. There are thought provoking questions and a prayer at the end of each chapter. A great read.

Wonderful Insight on Jesus as Our Shepherd

This devotional is not only insightful and encouraging, but also exciting and fun to read. I learned quite alot about sheep and how much we really resemble them in our behavior. Also, how much Jesus is like a good shepherd taking care of us, His sheep.
The author's have lots of experience with sheep after raising them for years. They share interesting stories of their sheep raising adventures, as well as some pictures for our enjoyment. Each devotional lesson includes a Scripture, a prayer, a short story and some thought provoking questions. One lesson was on hearing the voice of the shepherd including a comparison to how the sheep listen only to their shepherd's voice. They have to be trained to listen to it. It takes time and work, but eventually that is the only voice they will listen to, even if another person has a voice which to us may sound exactly like the shepherd's. It is all very fascinating indeed!
Scripture compares us to sheep, what better way to understand that comparison than by studying it from a real shepherds point of view? There is much insight to glean from this devotional. I certainly plan to keep my copy around for a while. I am sure you or anyone else would enjoy it. It would certainly make a nice gift.
