About the Author
Alister MacKenzie was born in England. He practiced medicine and served as a civil surgeon in the Boer War, beginning his career in golf-course design shortly after returning home. He died in 1934.

I love the nuance Alister MacKenzie used when writing this book

I love the nuance Alister MacKenzie used when writing this book. It was almost as if he was describing a work of art when he talked about golf course design. Use the natural beauty of the surroundings and create holes enjoyable for all skill level are the big takeaways from this book. Good advice even for today, truly timeless

Photos in the kindle edition

I like the Kindle edition because the photos show up in high resolution and you can see some of the detail that Mackenzie was trying to capture. Although a short book, it was written almost 100 years ago and is fascinating to read if you like golf architecture or have ever played St. Andrews

I've always been a Mackenzie fan and seeing his original essays in their old form was very cool. Still makes sense and applies to all aspects of the game nearly 100 years later. Interesting to read about the archaic technology and the cost to build a world class golf course back then too.
