This was an entertaining short story for a sunny afternoon. Adeline is a little more strong willed than what makes a really likable character for me, but James is a keeper. All in all Addie and James' story encourages me to move on to Amelia's story (2) and then Averil's (3), too when it's completed at the end of this month. ~ J. The Best 379 Colleges, 2015 Edition (College Admissions Guides) An Interview with Rob Franek, author of The Best 379 Colleges What makes The Best 379 Colleges different from other college guides?

The biggest difference is our one-of-a-kind ranking lists. Or, better put: 62 of a kind. We ask students (130,000 for this edition!) at the colleges in this book to rate their schools on dozens of topics and report on their experiences at them. From that student survey data, we tally the book's 62 ranking lists, each one revealing the top 20 schools in a category that an applicant -- or a parent of an applicant -- has told us matters to them. Want to know which colleges have the best career services? The most accessible profs? Are LGBT-friendliest? We have lists for each of these in our book. Another feature only in our book is our eight college rating scores. Using data we get from our college administrator surveys, we score each school from 60 to 99 in eight categories including financial aid, admission selectivity, and fire safety.

Why 379 colleges?

The Best 375 Colleges might be catchier-- but we don't start with a fixed number, then "back in" schools to make that number work as a title. The number of colleges we profile in the book is based on the number of schools that meet our criteria each year as "best. "

How do you pick these "best" colleges?

Three factors are involved: academics, student survey data, and balance. First, a "best" school must offer an outstanding undergraduate education. Our academic evaluations are based on our own visit to the schools (I visit about 50 a year, and collectively our editors and staff visit hundreds), plus data we get from the schools on their program offerings, majors, faculty, and admitted students. We also consider recommendations from our extraordinarily informed National College Counselor Advisory Board. Second, we weigh what students tell us about their schools in our survey. Third, we maintain a balanced representation of colleges in the book by region, size, character and type. Only about 15% of the nation's four-year colleges make it into our book, and we add ‒and drop‒ schools from it every year.

A Useful Guide To A Limited Number Of Colleges

The Princeton Review "Best Colleges 2015" is a somewhat useful guide to about 400 of America's 2,000 four year colleges. It does a good job of describing how the "personality" of one college differs from its peers, which can help high school students decide which colleges would be the best fit for them.

It has MANY weak points. Most of the colleges included are on the east coast and west coast. In most other states only one or two colleges are covered. Most of the college profiles have not been updated much, if at all, in the past five years. The cost information is a year or two out of date.

Yet, even with those weaknesses, this book is worth buying IF a student is looking at some of the colleges that are profiled. By combining this book with the MUCH better Tanabe "Ultimate" guide to colleges, and by also using the up to date cost information on the free College Board website, it is possible to figure out which colleges offer the "best fit" and begin making plans for college visits.

Note: The FREE College Board website offers the most current information for every four year college in America, including costs and financial aid, and accurate SAT and ACT score data for each college. The College Board website covers every four year college in America and is the most up to date source of trustworthy information.

AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER OF SENIOR YEAR: Go to the admissions website of each college you are considering. Carefully study the deadlines and procedures for "Early Decision I", "Early Decision II" "Early Action", "Rolling Admissions" and for the regular admissions process.

At many of the "Top One Hundred" colleges, applying "Early Decision" in October provides a big advantage compared with waiting until December. At many top public universities, the "rolling admissions" process greatly favors October applications over December and January applications.

It is impossible for high school counselors to know the current details of the "Early Decision" admissions process at dozens of colleges. High School students and their parents need to do LOTS of homework to decide whether to apply "Early Decision" and students need to begin working in September on the required essays for each college.

The best college search book (and my kids agree)

**UPDATE AUGUST '15** Rather than have a brand new listing for the 2016 Edition of this book, Amazon lazily did a "cut and paste" and transported all the reviews from last year to here. Why??

As to the 2016 Edition (853 pages), we are now at "380 Best Colleges", with four colleges dropped and five new colleges added: Clark University, Earlham College, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Stetson University, and University of New England.

Listed below in full is my review of last year's edition, which Amazon simply "cut and pasted" to be listed here:

THE BEST COLLEGE SEARCH BOOK (AND MY KIDS AGREE)

The Princeton Review publishes a number of college search-related books, including the "Complete Book of Colleges" and this one. This book is essentially a distilled version of the "Complete Book", and frankly a lot more useful (but for people completely new to the college-searching process, definitely check that out too).

"The Best 379 Colleges (2015 Edition)" (837 pages) is similar to last year's edition. After holding the number of best colleges at 378 last year (remember this book started off in 1992 with the best 250, where have the years gone!), this year there are 8 new "best" colleges: Assumption College, Coe College, College of St. Benedict, Gordon College, Randolph-Macon College, Siena College, State University of New York-College of Environmental Sciences, and University of Louisville. Seven schools from last year's list were dropped (but if the inflation of "best" colleges continues, it's inevitable we'll get to 400 colleges at some point). There are over 60 fun-to-browse top 20 lists of best/worst, such as "Most Beautiful Campus", "Students Study the Most", "Party Schools", and "Most Politically Active Students" (my daughter's school is the #10 ranked school on that list, it was ranked #4 last year, so yes these rankings change from year to year, although not sure how exactly these rankings come about, a drop from 4 to 10 in a single year seems pretty steep).

The best feature of this guide remains the 2 page layout for each of the colleges, with in-depth information on campus life, academic selectivity (the number of applicants, how many were accepted, and of those how many actually decided to attend), up-to-date tuition and room/board costs (I checked the numbers of my daughter's college, and they are accurate), etc. Another aspect that is very helpful is the right page sidebar, in which the essence of the university is distilled, and Princeton Review's final assessment on how tough it really is to gain admission when all is said and done. I again re-read the listings of the various colleges that my daughter and my son considered before making a final choice (she chose a school in DC, he stayed in Ohio), and can only state that all of what is written in here seems very much on point.

In the end, the proof is in the pudding: of the many college guides out there, my daughter spent more time with this book (when she was looking at colleges a few years ago) than with any other. This book is not the first place to start the college search, but once your son or daughter has narrowed down his/her colleges of choice, and assuming those colleges are featured in the "best 379", this book clearly is the best resource, the last step before a campus visit, and can be used again following the campus visits. I've looked at a lot of college-search books and if I was forced to recommend only one book among all the college search guides, this book is it, period.

We pick this book up a lot more than I thought we would.

This is a book we have picked up constantly as we think about which colleges are right for my twins, who are currently juniors in HS. It's very cleanly printed and easy on the eyes. Each college gets a 2-page spread, and the sections are consistent, so you know exactly where to look if you have a quick question like "is it a big school?" or "what's the acceptance rate?" or "is the culture mostly preppy or earthy-crunchy?"

We love that they talk about the school's "typical" student and that they interview students, too. It gives you more than googling does, and faster, and it's easier to do when there's more than one person.

The only thing I would change would be to include a big map of the country on the first page, and on each school's page I would put a little map with an indication where the school is. I know my local area, but I've never heard of some of the schools across the country, and it would be helpful.

Great Book, very well done!

The Trans Am Firebird restoration book is probably one of the best on the market if you’re going to be restoring a 1970 ½ to 1981 Trans Am or Firebird. You will find this to be one of the most useful books in your technical library. It’s written by Melvin Benzaquen and is really well done. The chapters are laid out well. They start with models and numbers and how to decode them, which is always fun. Then it gets right into what kind of restoration do you really want to do? This, of course, depends how much work you want to do and what kind of results you want when you’re all done. Are we building a daily driver with a weekend show and shine, or a full-on period correct, final show quality car? I like that way that the author progresses into the basic disassembly of the car followed by the bodywork and body panels and then the rest of the car. Once we get it all apart next up is going to be cleaning, examination and repair work. All of this is covered in great detail with plenty of photos. Body prep and painting is gone over in detail. There are separate chapters for engine rebuilding, transmission rebuilding, drivetrain etc. Then it’s into brakes and suspension. This is detail oriented and is a complete hands-on section. Even if you have never done one of these before, it is totally possible with this book. Also there is an electrical section on trouble shooting. Electrical seems to be the weak part for most of us, so I was especially glad to see that. I don’t think he missed anything. I like the fact that it is all there in great detail with plenty of photos. When I get into a project like this I like to have two copies of these books. I spiral-bound one and put it on the bench so it’s always available and the other one goes in my tech library. Oh, one more item that is worth mentioning, no self-respecting Trans Am would be complete without the Eagle on the hood!

Great Guide if You're Restoring Your First Trans Am

I am currently restoring a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, and I purchased this book in hope of gaining further insight on my restoration (which is progressing at a turtles pace). While there is a lot of good information in this restoration guide, it's geared more for the novice. If you've already completed a restoration or two, you're not going to learn anything new by buying this book. If, however, you're working on partially or fully restoring your first Trans Am, then I would recommend you add this book to your shop library.

Must read before you buy that Trans Am or Firebird Restoration Project

The 1970s Pontiac Trans Am & Firebird is an American Muscle Classic. Melvin Benzaquen's Trans Am & Firebird Restoration 1970 1/2 - 1981 is a great book for anyone thinking about restoring one of these classic muscle cars. The book is more geared/focused on readers who are new to restoring cars. This point is emphasized by the many times in the book when the author explained the various levels of restoration (driving, Concours, show) and the pro's/cons of doing the various parts of restoration yourself or sending it out to be done. Being realistic, Benzaquen also discusses costs. Nothing is ever free and often you get the quality you pay for. The book follows an excellent/logical flow starting with Models and Numbers and then progressing through the car from the outside in. The book is well written and loaded with photographs. The how-to instructions are straight forward and numbered making them easy to follow. Bottomline: The target reader for this book is not the professional automobile restorer--the focus is the reader who is new to restoring a Trans Am or Firebird. If you're thinking about going out and finding that restoration project, you need to buy and read this book before you go buy the car. It will be money well spent.

This book is Fantastic! Just got it recently and so far it's going better than I expected. I am taking the exam for the second time where lastly i had scored very bad. So I'm trying my best to improve this time and this book is actually improving me in a better way than my other books which I purchased last time.

The book was good but there was no attachment of the code to access online and for the mobile,. I've searched for it in every page including the inner portion of the cover, still, there was no sticker or attachment aside from the CD,. So I wasnt able to access anything about the mobile and online

DON'T BUNDLE WITH "Strategies, Practice, & Review"

This book is great. It's helping a lot so far. I'll test later this year. Preparing early. I accidentally purchased this with the "NCLEX-RN 2015-2016, Strategies, Practice, & Review" not realizing they were the same book. Only difference between them is that the PREMIER version has extra practice test material. Other than that... they're word for word the exact same. Wish i had noticed that before buying the other version of the book. Oops.

Content review is lacking; use this only as an adjunct.

I recently took the NCLEX-RN and passed in 75 questions. I used this book in addition to purchasing the online Hurst review. This book isn't that expensive, so it is worth giving it a try. However, if deciding between review courses (which are much more expensive), then I would pick the Hurst review over Kaplan. From what I can tell, Kaplan focuses mainly on question taking whereas Hurst focuses on content. After having taken the NCLEX, I can honestly say that your time is better spent focusing on content. If you don't know your content, then strategies aren't going to be very helpful unless it is a low level question - and these aren't going to help you pass! I would brush up on content using the Hurst review and then go through this book to finish off your prep work.

W. Walter Tinsley got his start in tutoring volunteering at in inner-city alternative school for troubled youth in the ethnic ghettos of south Dallas. He has since graduated Cum Laude with a double-bachelor's in Sociology and History from the University of Texas at Dallas where he specialized in epistemology, or the "study of how we know what we know." He can now score the perfect 2,400 on the SAT, and has created numerous study aides including a set of over 1,500 custom flashcards so that you can too. He tutors in the Northern Virginia area and online.

One thing I love about this book is that it shows you the special answer sequence. If you fill in the answer choices just the right way, cameras monitoring the test will alert a team of experts to rush in and give you a random score between 1,920 and 2,400, and FREE ICE CREAM! I've taken the test five times now. There's this one 400lb kid I sit next to on test day and we both get it every time.

BAGGIE FULL OF ADDERALL

This book is great if you snort it in small hits, but watch out before
giving it to newbie clients. I've already had two noobs OD with big
bags. If you're going to sell big bags, you want to cut it with a
20/30/50 adderall/ritalin/UDG mix. Just trust me on this. It will
save you some $$$ and a lot of headache.

my son, age 15 just read this and now wants to read Every book the author recommends- its a fun, edgy interesting way to present an approach to the SAT. Mr. Tinsley is a gifted writer and can access the teen mind. I highly recommend this book for kids before they take/start studying for the SAT!!

This book has exactly what is promised.

I bought this book for my girlfriend. She's going to be a nurse. So, I thought that this book might come helpful for her. But, before giving her the book, I thought of reading the book myself to check its quality. After reading the book, I must say that I'm pretty amazed by it. This is a very fine book. The author knew what he was writing about. Though I'm not sure about the credibility of the book as I I don't know that much about nursing, but still, the 105 practice questions seemed very useful for eye, ear, nose and throat disorders.
I just hope that my girlfriend becomes happy with me after reading the book!

A must have when trying to pass the test!

This is a book that anyone who wants to become a nurse must try. It is packed with all the right questions that you can expect to see when you take your exam to become a nurse. Not only does it contain the questions, but also the answers and explanations. That is a key part to passing your exam.

I can't imagine ever attempting the test without having gone through a book just like this one. The price is affordable and it really does and will make a difference for you. Definitely recommend!

A very helpful reviewer. My sister is taking the NCLEX next year and I do hope that she makes it. I got her this ebook because it was the best one I have seen during my research. It is concise with all the correcr data needed. And I love that it tackles a portion of the exam, not the entire area because I think the readers can focus more on the topic with this one.

ERB provides valuable free resource online just for lower and mid level students

I reviewed this book at the library and was disappointed along with other reviewers that the practice test combines mid and upper level material.

This is a great book for my kids in middle school to prepare for the very competitive SAT and ACT standardized tests that they will soon have to take. I have them study a few new words a week and it helps as a guide

Son got 25% after spending his time with this book for two months. Gets straight As (one B) at a private school so not eat your hand dumb. Book confused him with blend of middle/upper and ISEE questions.

I should have been a better parent and monitored what he was doing but figured an SSAT book could not steer him wrong. Horrible book. Attorney notes I should sue the publisher.
