About the Author
Techla S. Connolly has been teaching middle school English Language Arts and Reading for fifteen years. She has worked with colleagues to develop the 7th grade ELA curriculum and create common writing prompts in her district. She also presented her work on developing a unit using an anchor text at the 2014 NCTE Conference in Boston. She has also completed training in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) through CAST. In addition, she has corrected scored both the ELA Long Composition test and Massachusetts MTEL tests. Techla’s current focus in her role as classroom teacher is to integrate exciting and engaging lesson based around the Common Core standards into her daily practice.
Carrie Meyers has taught math to students from kindergarten through college for more than 18 years. Through most of her career, Carrie has excited and educated middle-level adolescents by integrating science and other real-life applications into her math classes. She has also worked with NASA on writing curriculum and as an education specialist for the New York State Education Department on high school Regents exams. She has also presented at state conferences to provide quality professional development to other educators on how to integrate the Common Core Standards into other content areas. Carrie’s current focus is to help teachers see the power that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education can have in their classroom by creating and providing Professional Development Institutes for teachers nationally, increasing teacher content knowledge as well as pedagogical methodology.

Great resource! However

Great resource! However, it does have a few errors that turned out to be good learning experiences. That the key is in the back of the book is helpful. Some of these books have the answers on the same worksheet and plenty of us can agree that this often does not work for 7th graders.

Buy it!

I only need the math part of this book so that is what Im reviewing. The lessons start out as multiple choice problems and then expand to include open-ended questions. I will be using these as partner activities after the initial basic mastery of the skill. I am very pleased with this book and it is going to save me a lot of lesson-planning time. I have been teaching 5 yrs.

This test practice book is organized by standard so students can go through and methodically practice one standard at a time. Each standard includes reading passages with both written and multiple choice questions. As an English teacher, I would recommend it to any student who wants to become more familiar with the types of test items typical of a Common Core-aligned standardized test. The wording of the questions is similar to what one might find on the PARCC test, for example. What's more, the types of thinking that students must engage in to answer these practice questions will lead to a deep understanding of the texts and build valuable reading and writing skills. This workbook also presents a great opportunity for parents to work with their children at home. Like any other skill, reading and writing gets easier with practice. The "Test Practice for Common Core" workbook is a fantastic resource.
